Protein equivalent to physical training? “In the future it may be possible”

Some people who practice sports lack the time (and sometimes even the desire) to train regularly. Despite this, they still want to stay in shape and maintain the strength of their muscles. Research carried out at the University of California in San Francisco by biotechnology experts gives hope that in the near future it will be possible to replace physical exercise with an advanced protein supplement which will provide an effect similar to that which occurs in the body after intensive training!

However, it is difficult to expect any protein supplement to be able to induce in humans as many positive sensations as are produced after a well-executed, intensive physical workout (the effect of endorphins, among other things).

“If there was a drug with these effects, everyone would want to take it. Our research suggests that this may be possible in the future, however – explains Dr. Saul Villeda, who is the lead author of the study.

In the meantime, after a series of experiments conducted on mice, scientists from the University of California managed to prove that increasing the level of the enzyme GPLD1 (which is included in phospholipases) improves intellectual condition. As one of the main conclusions researchers pointed to higher levels of GPLD1 in seniors who remain physically active longer than individuals with a static lifestyle.

The work on the new supplement has not yet begun, but it can be assumed that the optimistic conclusions from the work of American biotechnologists will soon be used by one of the leading pharmaceutical companies. It is worth remembering, however, that physical activity affects many more changes in our body than just increasing the level of protein that enters the bloodstream and strengthens the immune system.
